Training Courses

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, Salvatore Maugeri Foundation, Tradate, Italy, in collaboration with the Stop TB Department, WHO, Geneva and the WHO Regional Office (Copenhagen) since year 2000 is involved in training, technical assistance and operational research on TB, TB/HIV, MDR-/XDR-TB control, particularly in Africa and Eastern Europe.

It annually provides several regular training courses for TB consultants and national TB programme managers. As of today, 39 training courses have been organized in Italy (Sondalo),
more than 1200 participants from National Tuberculosis Programmes attended the Sondalo training courses from all the 22 high-burden countries, all the European WHO Region countries and the majority of countries from all continents.
The target participants are TB and HIV managers and consultants, TB experts, central level staff operating at national or subnational level who are responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating TB, TB/HIV and MDR-/XDR-TB control activities.

The different typologies of training courses offered by the WHO Collaborating Centre, Italy for year 2012 will be the following:



1. Implementing the Stop TB Strategy: skills for managers and consultants (TB, MDR-/XDR-TB,TB/HIV and more) (May/ October)


2. Monitoring and Evaluation of Advocacy, Communication, and Social Mobilization (ACSM) Activities to Support TB Control (June)
